Our Story

Since 1986, the Moose Fraternity has been actively supporting the Youth Awareness Program. The program consists of high school students presenting Kids Talks to educate and inspire other younger students. These presentations challenge the high school students to choose a topic of their choice, develop a lesson plan, schedule presentations, and present. The Youth Awareness Program provides the high school students opportunities to practice life skills, such as organization, research, time management, communication, and mentorship.

The West Virginia Moose Association awards $1,000 educational scholarships to selected state delegates that may be used at regionally accredited trade schools, colleges, and universities. Additional rewards may also be provided to all participants who complete the program.

The WVMA Moose Youth Awareness Congress is rapidly approaching and I am hoping that you have been able to spread some information in your area to students in grades 9-12.  Remember the students do not have to be affiliated with the Moose to participate in the program.  I have attached the digital flyer for the Congress that you can share and publicize through social media.  I have also attached the slide presentation show that I presented at conference that you can review for more information and ideas.  Listed below are the links for students to register for the event or the Zoom meeting.  They only have to attend one to be able to participate to win the scholarships.  I am really hoping to have some participation from our talented youth in WV this year!  Please reach out to me if you have any questions or for assistance.

Students use the link below to register to attend the WVMA Youth Awareness Congress on September 21, 2025 at the Charles Town Moose Lodge 948.  A  $50 cash award will be randomly awarded to all students who register and attend the WVMA Youth Awareness Congress.  The deadline to register is September 14, 2025.

WVMA Moose Youth Awareness Congress 2025 Registration

Key areas of the program are:

Creativity:
Students have the freedom to develop their lesson for the audience, who are ages 4-9.

Organizational:
A life skill that challenges the high school student to plane under a time-line. This teaches time management and utilizing time wisely to plan the presentation and present.

Public Speaking:
Students start conquering the fear of speaking publicly early on in life and the presentation helps them get out of their comfort zone.

Reports and Feedback:
The Kids Talk reports must be individualized and contain a detailed summary of each presentation that explains the lesson. audience’s response, and how the experience could be improved

Independence:
It gives the high school participants a chance to travel and make new friends while having the chance to earn scholarships in a safe, secure, well-planned event out of their own will.

Travel:
Different Moose Association members bid to host the International Student Congress. It gives individual associations within the Moose Fraternity the opportunity to show fun and historic sites in and around the hosting city. The International Student Congress is a well-planned and chaperoned event. The Moose Association members hosting the event this event plans all meals, activities, and hand select chaperones that go through an extensive background check. The Youth Awareness Chairman also gathers information regarding food and drug allergies to ensure the health and safety of each participant so first-time attendees and parent/guardians don’t have to worry.
